Seven Years Strong for Health & Safety Firm
Swansea based Alpha Safety is celebrating seven years in business by opening three new training centres in Wales, including a flagship training centre in Cardiff and two construction academies to support the flourishing developments in the region.
The business, which has its head office in Fforestfach and delivers its services across the globe, was formed in 2009 by Managing Director Paul Jones and has experienced rapid expansion since that time.
Paul commented, "The business has seen exceptional growth since we first started and from our humble beginnings, we are now one of the main health and safety training providers and risk management specialists in Wales and deliver our consultancy and auditing services across the world”.
Initially offering onsite IOSH (Institute of Occupational Safety and Health) and NEBOSH (National Examination Board in Occupational Safety and Health)
training, the business now employs more than 26 staff, offers over 200 courses from 20 plus awarding bodies and has training facilities from Pembroke to London.
Head of Operations, Andrew Collins commented: “Over the last 18 months we have seen an increasing demand for construction based training and have responded by opening two dedicated training facilities in Swansea and Cardiff to offer a broad range of courses."
The Swansea centre is on the former Signode site in Fforestfach while the Cardiff venue is located on Ocean Way and both centres boast state of the art training facilities offering everything from plant and access training to scaffold inspection courses.
Andrew commented, "We have successfully acquired accreditation with bodies such as IPAF (International Powered Access Federation), PASMA (Prefabricated Access Suppliers' & Manufacturers' Association), RTITB (Road Transport Industry Training Board) and NPORS (National Plant Operators Registration Scheme) and thanks to the facilities, we will be able to deliver training in a real-life environment”.
Alongside the new training centres is the full range of training courses they provide. From food hygiene and first aid to health & social care and security training; Alpha has a broad range of accredited and tailor made solutions to the most diverse of development needs.
In addition to the training division is the consultancy arm of Alpha Safety.
Headed up by Andrew Protheroe, recognised as an industry expert in the field of Risk Management (Health, Safety, Environmental & Quality) and audit, the consultancy arm works with businesses of all sizes to review their potential risks and to develop flexible solutions that keep businesses on the right side of legislation.
This has been further supported by the launch of the ‘Alpha Portal’ which has made a noticeable improvement to local businesses; streamlining processes and supporting them to meet and maintain standards.
Andrew Collins commented “The portal has received rave feedback from our existing clients. It allows businesses to upload, download and view all types of documentation which is also available for review to our consultants. Beyond typical policy documents, there are full tasking and reporting tools which can be used to submit all kinds of info which our consultants have immediate access to for support. There’s a comprehensive training matrix system built in, and it records all activity, providing a real-time record of all health and safety activity within the business”.
Between all services, Alpha Safety has seen phenomenal growth since it started seven years ago, allowing the company to establish a strong foothold in the UK market. However, the journey is far from over. Paul Jones, Managing Director, commented: "we have major ambitions to become a global player in the health and safety marketplace and we are well on our way to achieving that aspiration".
